When I first applied for Unemployment Insurance, as you may recall, I was encouraged to sign up for a job listing website called CalJOBS. Which I did. I thought that the job site created by the Employment Development Department , (The EDD), would be the best place to look for a new job as a teacher.
But so far? CalJOBS has turned out to have the least job offerings for education jobs of the many job sites I’ve been haunting. I’m disappointed. If there are no teaching jobs to be found at the Government run job search site, this has to mean it is because there are no more teaching jobs left to find. California, in it’s infinite wisdom, has cut these jobs right out of existence, dismissed thousands of teachers, and gone on it’s merry way, never once thinking about the consequences of it’s callous actions.
My search of CalJOBS this week offered nothing at all for me. Most of the jobs under the Education category were the exact same jobs that I saw last week. Here they are, if you want to read about those. Few of those jobs actually involved teaching in the first place. They aren’t any more appetizing the second time around.
This week two new jobs appeared:
* Family Advocate I, II
This is yet another job from the EOC. Which makes me wonder, why, exactly, they have such a high turn over in staff that suddenly, each and every one of these positions needs filling? I don’t have the degree they are asking for to apply for this job, either, but what I do have might be considered “or equivalent degree”. It is a full time job, and the pay is nice. The job itself is located in a town that isn’t the safest place to work, and is far enough away to make a commute expensive. I actually did commute to and from that town in the past, and my car burned a heck of a lot of gas.
But, do I want to be a “Family Advocate”? I read the job description and find terms like “weekly case management meetings”, “participates in School Student Study Team”, and “provides additional early intervention through in-home support.” In home support? Is this job basically the person one calls when you are “having a domestic”? No, thanks.
* Community Education Coordinator
This is for a local hospital. (No, not the one I talked to when I was searching for information about the job at the Mental Health Hospital). This job description says things like “assessing, performing, and documenting community education needs.” What do we need? More teachers in the public schools! More teachers hired to work in Special Education classrooms. This community needs the government to stop cutting teaching jobs. That’s what we need! Somehow, I bet that is not the answer this employment situation wants a person to find. “Experience with group facilitation and coordinating education programs”. I don’t exactly have that, in so many words, on paper. This is not the job for me.
And, that’s all folks! Nothing more to be found this week. Keep tuning in to “Between Gigs” for updates on “The Quest for a New Job”, and other blogs about surviving unemployment.

Don’t you have a job yet?
Seriously, I hope you never get a job, so I can keep reading your entertaining blog, until you starve to death for lack of work.
Happy blogging until then!
Awww, thanks Turetzky!
Nothing makes a girl feel better than when someone wants her to blog until she starves to death!
If you’re going to operate a blog with Gravatars, the least you can do is get a Gravatar.
Ok, Turetzky, you talked me into it. I now have a Gravatar. Happy?
However, the Gravatar doesn’t work. Of course! Technology hates me.
