Just to test a theory, I decided to look for work today, to see if any new jobs are posted on Saturdays.
SLOJobs has nothing new at all, whatsoever, under “education”.
CalJOBS had a few new jobs:
* STAR program manager
It says this job is “temporary”, so I’m already not interested. From what I can tell from the description, they want someone to seek out college students who are about to become Math or Science teachers, and set them up with internships somewhere. It also mentions words like “mentor” and “research”. Yeah, I don’t qualify.
* Pre-Doctoral Intern, Counseling SVCS
I’m not entirely certain what that title means. This job is also listed as “temporary”. You might work “1-20″ hours a week. Basically, they want a person who has a degree in counseling to work with students at the local college. I think. I don’t qualify for that one either.
* Instructor, AG Education & Comm
This job is listed as “long term”, whatever that means. Pay is “depending on experience”, a phrase I hate to see sitting where the rate of pay is supposed to appear. Just tell people what the job pays, so they can figure out if it’s worth everybody’s time and effort to go through the application/interviewing process! In this case, for me, it doesn’t really matter. I cannot teach Agriculture classes at the local college. I’m not qualified for that either.
Craigslist has nothing new under education. However it did have this fine job listed under the general job category:
* Signature Gatherers Needed To Legalize Marijuana!
It says: “Great Opportunity for XTRA INCOME! State Ballot Initiative Campaign Just Getting Under Way! Paid per signature & self-employed! Registered Voters ONLY! ” Oooh.. just what I need, some “XTRA” income!
Compensation is listed twice. First it says : “Per Signature! Right Now 70c on 2 issues! But more on the way & could go UP in price!”
Then, later on it says: “All Petitioners are Paid Per ( .70 ) Signature within a few days. Turn ins twice a week.” So, basically, this job is commission based. Oh boy! My favorite!
Oddly enough, I signed this petition just last week. The man holding the clipboards seemed nice, and was talkative. He asked me “So, what exciting thing has happened for you this week?”
I responded with “Well, I’m unemployed now. That’s new and exciting!”
He then asked me if maybe I might want to work getting signatures on petitions. My answer at the time was “Maybe, I’ll have to think about it”. Thinking over! It looks like a dream job. Sign me up!
